                                               New Technology: 3G 
                          
                               It is latest wireless technology. It is also known as UMTS(Universal Mobile Telecommunications System}, an improvement over 2G providing wireless acces to the data and information to the users from anywhere any time that provides high bandwith to handheld devices.

      3G cellular phones were first launched in Japan in oct 2001. This 3G phone was desinged so users would be able surf the internet, view picture of the people they are  talking to, watch movies and listen to music on their handsets. The speed of 3G technology provide is 2 mbps.


 Advantages of 3G:

  • There is a higher speed
  • It provides you faster connectivity,internat access
  • Music entertainment with improved quality
  • Video calling system
  • Clarity is better
  Disadvantages of 3G:
  • The cost of upgrading base stations and cellular infrastructure to 3G is very high.
  • There is an issue of handset availability both data/voice work has not yet been demonstrated
  • Base stations need to be closer to each other 
  • Tremendous specturm license costs, network deployment cost, handset subsides to subscribers,etc.
In future, A great deal of potential exists for new applications in the future Rs 3G packet based networks will allow users to be online all the time.
